Blue Illusion Chateau Stay

5th - 12th September 2022

Exclusively tailored for the Blue Illusion community, this seven day all-inclusive experience offers an authentic and unforgettable week with activities including cooking classes, visiting local sights, exclusive tours and more. Embark on the trip-of-a-lifetime and completely immerse yourself in the magnificence of French Château living.

Monday 5th September

Depart Montparnasse train station for the short train trip to Laval station where you will be met by your chateau host.

After a short drive through the Mayenne countryside you will arrive at Chateau de la Carriere, your home away from home for the next 7 days.  Built almost 200 years ago it is the quintessential French fairy tale chateau, complete with turrets.  You will check into one of the beautifully appointed chateau bedrooms where you can unpack and settle into your room.  

Afternoon tea will be served on the terrace followed by tour of chateau and grounds and then free time to wander, enjoy the pool or relax in your room.  

Meet back on the garden terrace for Aperitifs/dinner and to meet your fellow chateau guests.  Meals are prepared using produce from the chateau potager and local suppliers.

Tuesday 6th September

Enjoy your first chateau breakfast of baguettes and croissants fresh from the bakery, homemade granola and jams, fruit for the chateau gardens and good coffee, all served on the kitchen terrace.

After breakfast, florist Clementine Levy will join us to pick flowers from the chateau garden and help you make a beautiful floral arrangement for your room.

Wednesday 7th September

Breakfast then private visit to a Perfume Atelier where you will learn how to handle the rare and most precious essential oils followed by the creation of a cologne, visit to the Perfumers Cabinet of Curiousities and then to the table for a perfumed lunch. https://en.nicolasdebarry.com/visites

 

Then it’s off to Chateau Villandry for the afternoon to view the beautiful chateau and magnificent gardens and in particular the huge ornamental vegetable garden which is as beautiful as any flower garden. https://www.chateauvillandry.fr/?lang=en

Thursday 8th September

Breakfast – cooking class followed by lunch at chateau

Afternoon visit to local privately owned chateau for tour of the chateau and garden followed by dinner with the chateau owner

Friday 9th September

Breakfast – You get to decide what you want to do – relax – visit the chateau brocante shop or go out for sightseeing or shopping

Saturday 10th September

After breakfast we will head to Laval to visit the weekly market with its abundance of local produce and goods. You can stroll through the centuries old streets, visit the chateau and indulge in some shopping before lunch at L’Essential where you will enjoy the menu of the day showcasing seasonal produce. https://www.laval-tourisme.com/en/pratique-english/pays-de-laval-tourist-office

 

On the way back to the chateau we will visit to Emmaus, the famous French thrift shop where you might find a few treasures to add into the suitcase Following a leisurely lunch we will return to the chateau for an afternoon cooking class helping prepare dinner for that night.

Sunday 11th September

Breakfast – visit to local brocante markets to find some French treasures.  The only restriction might be the size of your suitcase but don’t worry we can arrange transportation of the goods back to Australia (TBC).

 

Return to the chateau for a casual lunch and in the afternoon free time to relax or optional visit to Solesmes Abbey.  Built in 1010 and currently occupied by Benedictine monks it is an remarkable structure.  Whilst only the Abbey church is open to the public the walk around the Abbey is an experience you will long remember. https://www.france-voyage.com/tourism/solesmes-abbey-1884.htm
